I've been working so much lately! This is actually my first day off in over 2 weeks! I started working a third job helping an older lady with chores around her house. It has taken a while to synchronize a day off between all of my jobs, but I have finally done it! Now I get every Sunday off and every other Wednesday!!!
Even though I've been busy bankin' those dollars, it has not kept me from my little household tasks. Parker and I have finally finished building the garden, and we now have plants in! We're growing radishes, cantaloupe, pumpkin, squash, zucchini, cucumber, tomatoes, jalapeƱos, bell peppers, black eye peas, pole beans, corn, okra, and egg plant. I'm also trying to get an herb garden going in flower pots around the back porch. I'm really excited to finally have the garden in! It took a lot of hard work and now I can sit back (for the most part) and watch it grow!
Sam, one of Parker's good friends, recently lent us an amazing book... It's The Urban Homestead: Your Guide to Self-Sufficient Living in the Heart of the City. Initially I was a little turned off by a topics like "guerrilla gardening" and "urban foraging", but the section on home economics is AMAZING!!! The authors Kelly Coyne and Erik Knutzen describe how to make sourdough bread totally from scratch by creating a sourdough starter with only flour and water! I've been working on my own starter for 5 days now and it is really starting to smell funny in there.
I've still been cooking a ton as always. Last week I made Parker's and my fancy dinner night Chinese take-out style.
We had hot and sour soup, grilled marinated asian style tofu, baby bok Choy with crispy shallots, and brown rice. It was amazing.
Well, pretty much every recipe I've tried from Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero leaves me speechless!!
