Berry Treasure

Parker goes on a lot of what he likes to call, "adventure walks." From what I know, these walks never follow the pavement and they always involve just a little bit of borderline trespassing. On one of Parker's most recent adventure walks he discovered a gigantic dewberry patch.

Parker's dewberry patch was way bigger than your average suburban yard, and filled with ripe and ripening berries. I went with him to this secret berry mine last weekend. We spent about 3 hours picking 3 lbs of berries! I don't even want to imagine how much 3lbs of blackberries (dewberries close cousin) would cost in the grocery store. Yikes!

If my childhood memories serve me right, there is only one way to really enjoy dewberries... That is cobbler! And the only way to eat cobbler is a la mode. My mom always made her dewberry cobbler with pie crust, so that's how I did it too. I made a double batch of pie crust, lined the bottom of a large casserole dish with half of it, mixed the dewberries with a liberal amount of sugar and a little four, and topped it off with the rest of the crust! After I baked it I added a scoop of soy ice cream. I think we are going back to the dewberry patch this weekend!
